The American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
You can earn AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ from the AASM by reading selected articles from the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine (JCSM). In each monthly issue of JCSM, two articles are designated for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™, enabling you to earn 2.0 credits for each issue.
Simply go to the AASM online store to browse the journal CME list that is available in the “JCSM Articles” category. New CME articles are added every month, and CME credit remains available for designated articles for one year after publication.
Select an issue from the list and complete your purchase to access the two articles designated for CME credit. You will have unlimited opportunities to pass the post-test to earn CME credit for each article.
CME credit is available based on a learner’s participation in a manuscript’s pre-publication review process. Physicians may claim CME credit for a maximum of five (5) reviews per calendar year. Please see the criteria below for information about which reviews are eligible for CME credit.
The AASM designates each manuscript review activity for a maximum of 3.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.
Learning Objectives:

Disclosure:
Manuscript reviewers have access to the author conflicts of interest disclosures for each manuscript reviewed.
CRITERIA TO CLAIM CME:
CME requests must be made within 6 months of the completion of the review. Only reviews of the initial submission of an original research article are eligible for CME credit. Furthermore, only reviews received on time (as defined in the invitation to review, usually 14 days from receipt of manuscript) and judged as satisfactory by the Editor (Editor-in-Chief, Deputy Editor or Associate Editor) responsible for the particular manuscript will be eligible for CME credit.
A satisfactory review should follow the published JCSM manuscript review criteria. The features that contribute most importantly to a satisfactory review for the journal include: specificity and accuracy, completeness, usefulness of recommendations to both editors and authors, tone, internal consistency, and mindfulness of the needs of the journals’ readers and the medical community as a whole. To prepare a high quality review, the reviewer should consider existing evidence when preparing his/her comments. The reviewer should place the current work in the context of existing evidence in the area, describe the unique contributions of the current work, and comment on any inconsistencies of the current work with previous research in the area as well as any methodologic or experimental issues.
